Navigating Performance: Top iOS Map Apps in the US, Q1 2021

In the first quarter of 2021, the navigation and maps category on iOS saw significant user engagement in the United States. Sensor Tower provides detailed insights into the performance of the leading apps in this sector, highlighting trends in downloads and active users.

Google Maps, a cornerstone of digital navigation owned by Google LLC, maintained strong download numbers, starting the quarter with 382K and peaking at 454K in mid-March. The app's weekly active users also showed an increasing trend, starting from 23M users and reaching nearly 24M by the end of March.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic, another popular choice for drivers, began the quarter with downloads at 123K and saw a steady increase to 155K in late March. The app, developed by Waze Inc., witnessed a rise in weekly active users from 8.9M to just over 9.6M during the same period.

Google Earth, also from Google LLC, showed consistent download numbers averaging around 117K across the quarter, with weekly active users experiencing a growth from 617K to 744K, showing an increased interest in global exploration through the app.

Downloads peaked in mid-January at 21K and saw a dip to 9.5K by the quarter's end. The app's weekly active users showed a gradual increase from 36K to 48K, indicating a solid user base within the trucking community.
